10 Days is Plenty of Time on the Cayenne Pepper Diet
Many people have opinions on fasting and the amount of time one can safely spend cleansing with the Cayenne Pepper Diet. 10 days is customary, however there are advocates of cleansing who stay on the diet for 30 or more days. This is detrimental to your health.
Your body needs nourishment constantly, and that comes from food. The Cayenne Pepper Diet will give your body a much needed respite – which is a good thing. And when you consume the lemonade your digestive system can take a break from it’s usual work digesting, detoxing, filtering, and other things it performs when you are eating a healthy diet.
Your body can then turn to ridding impurities and toxins over the 10 days of the Cayenne Pepper diet. So, why could it be hazardous to stay on the cleanse longer than 10 days?
We have wonderful bodies. Without our even being conscious of it, there are millions of processes happening every second.
– beating heart
– brain activity
There are more, but you get the idea. Your body also has an amazing ability to adapt to harsh conditions. You sweat when you need to cool off, your circulation adjusts to adapt to cold. It can also adapt to lack of nourishment. Let’s have an example.
You might need 2000 calories per day to operate efficiently – this will fuel all your physical and mental activities.
If you then drop to 600 calories to 15 days or even more, your body adapts to this because it has no knowledge that you are doing this for wellness. But it understands famine, and that it needs to adjust to this new 600 calorie reality.
Your metabolism slows down. Starvation diets will always cause you to bounce back the weight when you begin eating again. This is by nature’s design. Your wonderful body believes that the famine is over and it can return to it’s normal weight.
Your energy levels will also drop down. You’ve restricted the body’s fuel and it now must respond to conserve all the energy it can because it doesn’t know the difference between a voluntary fast and starvation. This results in:
– reduced concentration
– irritation (oh yeah!)
– decreased mental functions
These are not optimal conditions and should dissuade you from staying on the Cayenne Pepper diet for more than 10 days. Consider doing this: give yourself a month and a half of normal healthy eating after the cleanse so your body can return to normal, then return to it if you feel it’s necessary. Don’t jump back into fast food or binge eating after the Cayenne Pepper Diet. Going to extremes is not beneficial and is not the road to sustained wellness.
The cleanse is a stepping stone into a long term healthy eating plan. Consider the Paleo diet, or the Zone, or another of your choosing. Just make sure you are fueling your body with excellent nourishment it needs.
The Cayenne Pepper Diet can roll back years of damaging lifestyle habits but for wellness all year ’round, it’s going to take healthy habits.
